There are 3 common words meaning "to die"; shinimasu, nakunarimasu and shiboo (shimasu).
The most common word is shinimasu in daily conversation.
nakunarimasu and shiboo are formal words.
nakunarimasu is often used for a family member, friend, co-worker or well-known person.
shiboo is normally used in news, reports or statistics.

ao means "blue". "green" is midori, but we call "green traffic light" ao-shingoo "blue traffic light".
"red traffic light" is aka-shingoo.
